IT Software Specialist – Lead Data Engineer

The Digital Transformation Corporate (DTC) programme implements the TenneT strategy on advancing the use of data and analytics to the benefit of internal operations and society. This is realized by the implementation of the TenneT Data Platform (TDP).

The TDP implements solutions for big data use cases to facilitate the energy transition. One of the prominent parts of this platform is a Data Lab platform where innovative and iterative business use cases are implemented. The goal of this platform is to realize first implementations in a fast and agile manner, before it is handed over to the more standardized and scaled maintenance environment.

To support the implementation of these innovative use cases in the TenneT Data Platform a dedicated DevOps team is formed. Apart from realizing use cases, the team is involved in extending and maintaining the IT platform and the big data capabilities following an agile approach. 

The Lead data engineer is an experienced individual who can effectively create and implement solutions for Data Science projects and streaming analytics. The role requires understanding of detailed business requirements, technology and IT strategy. The developer leverages in-depth knowledge of data ingestion, data storage, real time processing, and data science capabilities. 

• Translate business goals and requirements into effective solutions by working closely with the Product Owners, business stakeholders and development teams.
• Participate in the design, development and implementation of these solutions in line with domain/platform architecture.
• Facilitating decision making and implementing best practice solutions.
• Setting the standard for the development process and ensure these standards are met.
• Act as a mentor for new or less experienced engineers.
• Participate in team knowledge sharing, design reviews, etc.
• Conduct and lead Big Data and Analytics-related discussions with customers.

• You have a completed Bachelor or Master degree from a technical IT faculty
• You have at least 5 year demonstrable engineering experience in big data environments. Technologies such as: Spark, Spark streaming, Python, Java, Scala, Nifi, Kafka, Cloudera, CI/CD, Docker. 
• Demonstrable knowledge of data security, data governance.
• Demonstrable experience in solution design.
• Strong business awareness and be able to recognize problems and opportunities and provide value-added business solutions.
• Proven experience in agile working environments .
• Strong in communication and cooperation with different stakeholders within the Business departments and IT 
• Fluency in Dutch and English. Fluency in German is a plus.
• A strong team player with a "getting it done" mentality.
• Willingness to travel to our German offices on an occasional basis.
